Since construction, the lowest four construction joints in the inlet tower at Corin Dam had been leaking, leading to progressive deterioration of the concrete structure and posing a long-term risk to the asset’s structural integrity.
After multiple unsuccessful remediation attempts, National Concrete Solutions (NCS) was engaged to deliver a durable repair solution and installation methodology capable of addressing the leaks within the 60-metre-deep water-retaining structure, while also extending the asset’s service life.
Working within a highly constrained environment – a 6-metre-diameter inlet tower – NCS developed and implemented project-specific safety measures to ensure safe access and execution of the works.
Drawing on extensive experience with specialised remediation products, NCS also developed a tailored application methodology suited to the challenging site conditions, including deteriorated concrete and active water ingress. In the first stage, a fast-setting crystalline hydraulic cement compound was applied to rapidly and effectively stem water flow through the leaking construction joints.
Given the prolonged leakage and resulting severe concrete damage, a secondary high-build repair system was then applied to resurface the deteriorated areas, followed by a protective coating to fully waterproof the structure and safeguard it against high hydrostatic pressures.
By utilising NCS’s Best Practice Management certifications and associated procedures, the project was delivered within a controlled and safe working environment, ensuring effective access management and achieving a zero-incident outcome.
